Blessed Easter, everyone!  We have snow in Sioux Falls - oh my!  I'm sure my dog is loving it, but taking the day after Easter off has put me behind, so I haven't been home to walk him and enjoy it.  I am still in the office, sorting input about our low numbers (and the weather) for this weekend's Happening.

It is with regret that Happening #18 scheduled for April 13-15 is cancelled.  Many thanks to the team for all their hard work, and to Trinity Church, Pierre, for the work they have done to prepare to host us.   There are many people who work hard for our youth - keep at it!

You are invited to take part in a conference call to discuss youth ministry in South Dakota.  Each adult is asked to bring at least two youth to this discussion.  The conference call will be Tuesday, May 8, at 7:30 pm Central Time (6:30 Mountain Time).  I need to know how many phone lines to reserve, so if you will participate and can gather others in your area with you, please email me at thunderheadsd@msn.com as soon as possible so I can set the call up in time to let you know the number and the "code" for signing in.  There is no cost to you.  Please spread the word.

Our main goal will be to listen to the youth (you decide who qualifies for that label) and to those who have vital, working programs, and to decide on recommendations for the task force in regard to youth ministry in our diocese.

Thank you, each one, for the ministry you are called to, and so faithfully perform.  We serve an awesome, gracious God!
Serving Christ with you,
Holly Huisken

NEED EVERYONE'S HELP!!!!

Several years ago the South Dakota ECW made a Quilt that was eventually quilted by Ethel McClain and a group of women from Sioux Falls.

The Council is now considering placing the Quilt in a "safe place" and it had been recommended at the time of the making of the Quilt that when it was through making the route of the churches that it be placed in the Cultural Heritage Museum in Pierre.  At our annual meeting last September it was decided to do this, as soon as we were certain it had been seen by those who wanted once again to see it.  The time has come to consider placing it in the Museum.

IN consulting with the historian there they would like some history to come with it.  Of course, we will send the wonderful book "Patches" by Ruth Alexander as the cover is the Quilt; but we want to include some other history.   I visited a week or so ago with Ethel McClain, who is now 97, but very alert to see if she had saved any special information.   And she thought she had, but upon further checking her "storage boxes", she found that she had not.

SO, I am resorting to asking each church to send me the name of the person who quilted their square, as the quilt contains a square of every church in SD at that time--the early 80's, and any other information that they think would be historicaly pertinent to the square made for their church.

With so many years having passed, I know this is a tall order,
but if you can--send the information to me at inezharris@vyn.midco.net.   Thank you for your help!!!   Inez

There have been a number of postings on the net from various Bishops in the Church following the HOB meeting in Texas in March.  I would recommend reading some of them, the addresses of which Mary has posted on this link and in our e-mail.

I have written some thoughts on this HOB meeting and they will be included in the next edition of the ChurchNews, due out shortly after Easter.  I considered this as a Pastoral Letter to the Church in South Dakota, but chose the CN as the venue for the moment.  Perhaps after some additional reflection I will send a Pastoral Letter to the wider church at a later date.

Blessings for a Redemptive Easter tide.

I wanted to let everyone know that Bishop Mark MacDonald is well enough now that he is able to spend the Easter weekend with the folks in Navajoland. Thank you all for your prayers. Happy Easter to all my relatives and friends in SD.
