We have received a prayer request for Kristin, and her parents Dave and Jan Sanford (Madison).  Kristin developed a spinal infection from a discogram six weeks ago and has been in screaming pain ever since.  She has been in the hospital since the discogram for all but a few days.  She has been transferred to Abbott Northwestern in Minneapolis due to the severity of her situation.  She has now developed a massive allergic reaction to the antibiotics that were providing some relief and now must go "cold turkey" until the allergic problems end.  This will be a most difficult week for them and they need all prayers possible.

Kristin has a Caringbridge.org account [Visit KristinSanford] and they all would be buoyed by knowing of our support.  Thanks so much.

Our middle school youth group had fun last night collecting items for campers at Thunderhead Episcopal Center.  This year we have been doing "Shoebox Ministry" - putting items in shoe boxes for various groups: cookies and supplies for college students and military personnel, children's Christmas packages that went to the Rosebud Mission, Valentine's boxes for shut-ins, and now welcome packages for campers.

Last week we had fun decorating shoe boxes (lots of creativity in our group!).  Last Sunday we put lists on tables during coffee hour and people signed up for what they would provide.  We used Mapquest to chart two routes, and ended up at Caribou Coffee when we finished.  To add a twist to the scavenger hunt, since most of it was prearranged, we played "Bigger or Better" - we started with a small object and traded for something bigger or better.  One group turned a Christmas ornament into $40.00 and a trunk full of rummage, plus all the stuff collected for camp (not everyone traded, but chose to donate back to the group).

We will be able to supply many campers with a toothbrush, toothpaste, washcloth, deodorant, bandages, note cards, a small bag of candies, notepad, pen, poncho, and water bottle, plus a note of welcome and our prayers from Calvary Cathedral.  We will package the items next week, and have the boxes blessed on TEC Sunday, April 29.

Our congregation has been very supportive of each of the "shoebox" projects and we have had fun collecting, packaging, and delivering them.  Perhaps your youth or congregation would like to use some of these ideas too!  At a youth event in Pierre a few years ago, we played the "Bigger or Better" game as an evangelism tool - trading objects and handing out fliers inviting people to church.  There are lots of ways to have fun spreading the Good News!
