Greetings this feast day of Alban of Britain:

We are getting ready for the Annual Niobrara Convocation which will be held at Christ Church, Ft. Thompson, SD, on June 21-24.

There will two individuals Ordained as Deacons at 7:30 PM on Friday, June 23 at the Convocation.

Confirmations will take place on Sunday, June 24, at the final service.

We have learned that former Presiding Bishop Frank T. Griswold will be our guest this year, along with Bishops Ohl of NW Texas and vonRosenberg of ET.  Other Bishops have been invited but are unable to attend this year and have committed to 2008.

In 2008 we will have as our guest, Celebrant and Preacher on Sunday, the Most Reverend Katherine Jefforts Shori, the Presiding Bishop and Primate of PECUSA.

As far as I am informed, the 2008 Convocation will be on the Cheyenne River Episcopal Mission, hosted by the entire Mission.  If there is a change in place, I will post that information.

We are getting ready as well for the 2007 Diocesan Convention, which will be held at Cedar Shores Resort in Chamberlain, hosted by the Black Hills Deanery.  The opening service will be at Trinity Lutheran Church, followed by a reception.  There is some change in the order of things for this year, at the opening service the Bishop's Charge will be given to the Convention.  This is different from past conventions, so everyone should make special notice.  Clergy will be getting information soon concerning vesting, etc.

Special guest and Preacher at the closing Eucharist on Sunday will be the Reverend James Lemler, the Director of Congregational Development at the national church office in NY.  Fr. Lemler will also be the person responsible for leading the Clergy Conference on Thursday and Friday.

A note should have been sent out to all, that every morning at 10 AM, the Cathedral and Diocesan staff will be reading Morning Prayer.  If anyone has any special prayers they want this group to include in that service, please e-mail them to the Diocesan Office and Mary will see that your concerns are raised at Morning Prayer.

Blessings this day . . .

Greetings:

I attended and Celebrated the life of the Reverend Canon Paul A. Clark at Grace Church in Huron on June 5, 2007.  The service went well and the Order of Service was well done by Reverend George Parmeter.  The Committal was at the family plot in the Trinity Episcopal Cemetery in Mission SD.  Most of the family members who ministered in SD, were buried there, and thus the connection to the Clark family.

I was somewhat disappointed in the number of clergy who made a point to be present.  A number of years ago, perhaps twenty, when a member of the clergy died, all of them attended in respect to the ministry of the clergy person who died.  Now days, it seems that death is indeed an intrusion into our own schedules and we do not take time out to honor the memory and ministry of one of us who dies.  Perhaps we can work on that in the future.

Diocesan Council will meet on July 6-7 in SF at the Cathedral.  Special guests have been invited to be with us and discuss future business of the Diocese.

Summer Seminary is in full swing at TEC.  Professor Donald Armentrout from the University of the South is doing a Church History segment this year.

Future NSM events will be designed and implemented by the Reverends Paul Sneve and Mercy Hobbs.

The summer season is upon us and many are looking forward to their summer events.  Please remember your local congregation as you relax this summer, events still move forward in your absence and so your continued support is very important during the summer months.

More later,

Peace,
